Employee Spotlight: Aditi Kolla
Aditi Kolla | Regulatory Affairs Manager | Joined Penumbra in 2015
Q. What is your current role at Penumbra?
As a regulatory affairs manager at Penumbra, my overall responsibility is to ensure that the products we manufacture and sell comply with the recipient country’s specific medical device regulations and standards. One of the key responsibilities for my current role is to facilitate device commercialization in the United States, European Union, and Canada.
Q. What drew you to Penumbra?
Having completed my master’s in biomedical engineering, I was looking to work in a medical device company. Penumbra, being a mid-size, thrombectomy device manufacturing company, nicely fit the bill. The exciting learning and growth opportunities I have had at Penumbra since joining in 2015 have resulted in an incredible, almost decade-old journey!
Q. What aspects of your job do you enjoy most?
The best part of my job is to see the amazing case studies and patient stories where our devices make a significant impact on someone’s life and family. It is genuinely motivational and fulfilling to see how the work we do affects lives.
Q. If you did not pursue your current career, what do you see yourself doing professionally?
If I hadn’t pursued my current career in the healthcare industry, I would have probably studied astrophysics. Learning about the planets and stars really fascinates me. Fun fact – if we lived on planet Venus, we would technically celebrate our birthday every day just because the planet rotates around the sun faster than its rotation around its axis!
Q. Describe yourself at age 10. What career aspirations did you have at that age?
At age 10, I aspired to be a doctor. I guess from a very young age, I wanted to work towards improving public health. Also, for me, diagnosing different diseases from observed symptoms was similar to solving a riddle or a puzzle.
Q. Describe a travel adventure that you’ll never forget.
My husband and I embarked on an unplanned, off-season, last-minute trip to central Europe. We ended up doing a road trip through the Alps in Austria and Hungary, where we saw some of the most beautiful landscapes and met some amazing people along the way.
Q. What is your personal philosophy?
Don’t regret having a good heart. All good things come back and multiply.
