The Get Out the Clot Campaign Honors Blood Clot Awareness Month with a New Patient Pledge

This March, in honor of Blood Clot Awareness Month, Penumbra has joined with our partners in the Get Out the Clot campaign to launch a patient pledge to promote blood clot awareness.
Blood clots in the body affect people of all ages and backgrounds. They are a serious and potentially life-threatening condition and often go undetected due to misdiagnosis of symptoms and low awareness.
Up to 900,000 Americans are affected by blood clots each year, and as many as 100,000 die.1 Blood clots in the body are known as venous thromboembolism (VTE). VTE includes pulmonary embolism (PE), a blood clot in the lungs, and deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot in the legs or arms.

The Get Out the Clot campaign launched in October, 2024 with an emphasis on raising awareness among healthcare providers. This month we are expanding our focus to everyone who could be affected by blood clots.

About Get Out the Clot
Get Out the Clot is a collaborative educational initiative uniting expert in venous thromboembolism (VTE) care to help identify gaps in patient care related to blood clot conditions, including standardizing care and expanding access to the latest innovations to improve patient outcomes. The campaign is led by the American Venous Forum Foundation (AVF), International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis, National Blood Clot Alliance, Penumbra, The PERT ConsortiumTM, and the Society for Vascular Medicine. The organizations involved with Get Out the Clot believe it is critical that health systems across the United States establish a standard of care for thrombotic conditions to help patients get diagnosed promptly and receive the most appropriate care.
